My Day At The Mom Museum
I had no idea there was a “Motherhood” Museum! Sure enough a friend of mine, Christine and myself ventured into awesome New York City to explore it.
The draw was meeting author Cassandra Veiten who wrote the book “Mindful Motherhood”
It was an interesting day listening to guest speakers at the conference held at this small museum with a huge, global message about women, motherhood, and childbirth. I didn’t realize it until I was at this conference that I was part of a movement that is spreading – being mindful in parenting, in childbirth, and as a mother.
I recommend reading this book, especially if you’re a new mom:
What is “mindfulness”? It’s a way of being, behaving, and responding to life by being present and paying attention to fleeting moments daily in our lives. By doing so we actually extend time, experience prolonged savoring of moments, and we respond to life rather than react to it.
For childbirth, a mom can bond with her unborn child, connect with her body, and decrease labor pain by being aware and create space to decide how to respond to what’s happening at the moment and around her.
It’s difficult to get to this “mindful” place but well worth it once you arrive. It takes practice and everything you’re confronted with, boredom, impatience, frustration, lies a lesson to learn within.
I am part of a movement, as I said I didn’t even know was happening, and it is a “shift” in being, in being mindful in everything I do, we do, and our relationships with our children.
One topic that was discussed is the “old world” of thinking: Have children, raise them to conform with society, go to college, get a job, work for a company, and so on. Our world is changing as we can see from the current global economy, so is how we raise our children. Today the old “standards” are not working. The old ways of building a business no longer apply. The way in which we birth our babies is changing as well – home births and midwives are on the rise.
Wow! I thought. What awesome information I gained from this conference. To discover I am part of a global shift in mindfulness, was enlightening because I have been teaching this to my expectant couples!
Join me in the journey. Read the book and let’s talk. Let me know.
