Tune In To Connect And Bond
“Tune in” to your body daily through touch and intuition. Here’s a couple of ways to do this:
- Sit quietly in a comfortable place, on a chair, or in bed sitting upright. Scan your body and just ask yourself what you’re feeling at the moment and where. Take your time. This usually takes a few moments to really tune in and listen. Pay attention to any intuitive, “gut” feelings you have too. Ask yourself what does it feel like? Is it a sporadic sensation? Continuous? Is there any discomfort associated with it? Is baby kicking? Are you getting any “intuitive” messages?
Belly “Training”: Every day and throughout the day rest your hands on your pregnant belly rotating them every few minutes around your belly. What do you feel, if anything in each area? Do you feel your belly tightening? Does it tighten then relax? Do you experience WAVES of sensation (belly tightening and relaxing)? Is baby moving around, or kicking?
- Touching your belly is also a way to bond with your baby while you’re pregnant. Feeling your baby’s movements throughout the day is a great sign of baby’s well-being.
- The more you explore physical sensations through touch and connect with your body, the more at ease you’ll feel because you’ll be able to distinguish different sensations.
- The more you listen to your body the better you’ll respond to it appropriately. For example, going back to sleep, changing your position, or calling your doctor or midwife.
“Tuning-in” trumps “tuning -out” when it comes to preparing for birth. The more you know about your own body the better, and the better the bonding with your baby, right now, while you’re pregnant.
