Does Your Body Really Want To Hurt You
Often when observing couples in my childbirth classes I can almost “hear” their worried thoughts about how much “pain” they expect to experience during labor just by noticing their facial expressions!
Childbirth rumors about labor pain has really put the “freeze” on thinking about the possibility of labor being potentially painless, a satisfying experience, or even inhibited by using techniques such as acupressure, meditation, or hypnosis that the human body responds to.
But labor is often perceived as something that is an “external” phenomena happening to a woman instead of it being a part of her physically. Pregnancy, a developing baby, and the process of birthing that baby, is all part of a woman’s physiology! Why not own it instead of running from it!
If you’re pregnant and reading this, why would your own body go out of its way to hurt you?
Regardless of what you’ve heard about labor and birth, no matter how scary the story, birth can be a very loving and an incredible experience, emotionally and physically.
For as many physical processes your body has in place to warn you of illness or harm, it has that many physical processes to inhibit pain, stress, negative thinking, and anxieties.
Your body is your companion, a friend, and ally. Tap into it’s strength and ability to help you manage labor pain, and any anxieties you have so you can see clearly, and experience a fearless birth.
What to learn?
- mindful meditation
- pressure points
The reason childbirth fears continue within the general public is the repetition of negative birth stories, birth “drama” in the media (TV), and a lack of education about how your own body can create calm and inhibit pain – without medication.
This is changing though… incredible research on the mind/body connection is increasing in mainstream news and is no longer disputed. The mind/body connection is real. Learning about it can help you greatly to manage any stress in your life, and manage your upcoming labor experience.
Birth bold, Lesly 🙂
