No Thoughts No Pain
Recently I changed the format of my personal childbirth education program – Smartbirth. There’s enough said about medical interventions and medications on the internet. But not enough about intuitive abilities or in depth relaxation which is also a life skill for better overall well-being, not just for pregnancy and birth. It’s great for parenting too!
In this study published by the Journal of Neuroscience, subjects were trained how to do meditation as a method to decrease pain. What I found to be really interesting is it’s not the deep breathing persay that decreases pain. Rather …
it’s the ABSENSE of judgement and evaluation of thoughts about what is being experienced physically that decreases pain, quieting the mind which allows just “being” in the moment
This is powerful! Imagine, by changing how and what you’re thinking during a labor contraction you could decrease your perception of discomfort! It does work, yet it takes training. This is a challenge because we are all addicted to “doing”, being busy. Where with meditation or any other relaxation program you have to deliberately set your intention to do it.
Another amazing effect of meditation on the body, particularly the brain, is its ability to change the Pre Frontal Cortex. If you meditated for 10 minutes a day, for 8 weeks, your brain would inhibit negative thinking and generate positive thoughts.
Smartbirth is just about this now. Learning how to meditate to reduce pain, stress, anxious thoughts about labor and life in general, listening to intuition, movement, and so much more.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in read about the class here, or ask me a question!
