The Media Distorts The Realities of Birth Again
Besides the negative birth stories circulating in our culture, the media has once again distorted the realities of birth and parenting in the new movie “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”.
If you ever saw “Knocked Up” or “Nine Months”, this movie is just another film that reinforces negative attitudes about pregnancy and birth with a twist – a focus on fatherhood.
The media is powerful. People believe what they see and hear.
So seeing a women in labor screaming for “the juice” sets the stage for viewers to believe labor is not only painful, but the experience of giving birth to a new human being is so insignificant, you can “sneeze: the baby out.
Media distorts the realities of birth, how life changing it is, how empowering, and loving it is, and amazing it is for a new mother.
If you want to believe in your own abilities to birth with confidence, avoid seeing this film. It’s embarrassingly ridiculous and a waste of money.
Birth bold, Lesly 🙂
