Beauty And The Uterus
You know this story, Beauty and the Beast – yes?
Beauty’s patience, understanding, kindness, and self-respect over time changed how the Beast behaved towards her. Beauty was able to see past the Beasts’s facade of anger and meanness, and the potential threat of harm to her – she saw a deeply caring and sensitive creature. Eventually the Beast was able to embrace Beauty’s ability to accept him as he was, ugliness and all.
True love resulted, a meeting of two hearts, with the best of intentions for each other, and accepting each other as they were, their relationship blossomed into a deep compassionate love.
You know how it ends, the Beast changes into a handsome young Prince (after Beauty’s kiss) and they live happily ever after.
Let’s use this story as an analogy. You are Beauty, (but pregnant) – “glowing” with love and excitement about the upcoming birth of your baby. Yet when you think about birth, the thought of labor – the “Beast” that has the potential – (you think) – to cause you harm, you become fearful and anxious.
In this case the “Beast” is within, it’s a part of you.
Over the years (and throughout history in the US and in Europe) the process of labor and its painful contractions endured a negative reputation which has escalated the fears in women about childbirth.
This is changing today because of the medical advances in mind/body science and research that demonstrates meditation and how we use our thoughts reduces pain
If you look beyond the facade of potential harm the “Beast” (the uterus) may cause, you may see ways to work with and calm the Beast’s (the uterus) behavior and create a better loving union, or better teamwork.
The Uterus has one magnificent job to do: to protect, nourish, and birth your baby through it’s commanding contractions when the time comes – that’s it!
It is NOT the intention of the Uterus to cause you harm. It wants to impress you with its power and determination to birth your baby so you can hold your little one in your loving arms.
After all, the Uterus is a part of your anatomy. It has a set of built-in directions to follow when it’s time. Just like your digestive system does, as well as your heart, and numerous other functions in your body.
Acceptance is powerful and has the ability to let things just be as they are. Embracing and letting your labor just be, giving the |Beast” permission to do its job, will make your childbirth experience that much more rewarding and loving , simply because you didn’t fight of fear it.
Change your thinking about labor. It’s a part of you, and you can learn how to use your thoughts to manage it in positive ways.
